Accelerating Efficient Installation and Optimization of Battery Energy Storage System Operations Onboard Vessels

Emerging large battery energy storage systems (BESSs) are key enablers in the electrification of shipping sector. With huge government investments BESSs, there gaps between supported BESS initiatives and actual integration results on vessels. This study aims to close these gaps, allowing BESSs become preferred solution for ship owners without needing support. Firstly, this industry-driven reviews both industrial approaches achieve CO2 emission reductions fuel savings from 500 installations various Secondly, a 630 kWh retrofitted onto hybrid-electric vessel is used quantitively identify improvement requirements operations.
